Board of Directors
About the Board
General Board Role and Responsibilities
The MSFC Board of Directors is responsible for supporting the organization’s long-term strategic plan and its financial health. Participation on MSFC’s board offers individuals an excellent opportunity for a leadership experience with a team passionate about reproductive justice. While we recognize that many of our medical student board members have served as Student Leaders at their local chapters, the role of a board member is different from that of a Student Leader.
Members of the Board of Directors are elected to serve up to three years with a possibility for term renewal. Board membership requires substantial accountability to the organization. There are three meetings, either virtual or in person, during each board year, and board members are expected to join one committee with remote meetings approximately every other month. Board members are also required to support MSFC’s fundraising efforts in some capacity.
Application for the MSFC’s Board of Directors
Thank you for your interest in joining the MSFC’s Board of Directors! We are currently accepting applications for at-large board members and a new President-Elect for service to commence in Spring 2026. Candidates for President-Elect will be selected from the pool of applicants for general Board membership.
Who We Are Looking For
Medical Students for Choice is strongly committed to diversity within its organization and especially welcomes applications from Black, Indigenous, and Latinx persons of color, persons who identify along the gender expansive spectrum; persons with disabilities, and others who may contribute to further diversity of ideas and to further represent MSFC’s broader constituency and future patients. As an international organization, we welcome applications from candidates based in any country.
We also encourage first-year medical students to apply for Board membership and welcome applications from candidates who were not selected for Board membership in prior years.
Role and Responsibilities
At-large members of the Board of Directors are elected to serve terms of up to three years (or until the year of their graduation, for trainee Board members). Board members’ terms begin in the Spring of the year they are elected to the board and extend through the Spring Board meeting of their last year of service. The position of President-Elect is a three-year role to serve as President-Elect, President, and Past-President.
All Board roles require substantial responsibility and accountability to the organization and require regular conference calls and three Board meetings per year (generally one each in the Spring, Summer, and Fall/Winter). While traditionally in-person, Board meetings are currently occurring remotely for most of the year, with one in person meeting scheduled per board cycle. For the role of President-Elect, daily emails, weekly conference calls, and additional in-person meetings are required.
Eligibility
Membership: Membership on the Board of Directors is open to both medical students and non-students who are passionate about MSFC’s mission of supporting future abortion providers and advocates.
Application and Selection Process
To apply, please send your completed application (Medical Student Application or Professional Member Application) along with a current copy of your CV to the Nomination Committee at nominations@msfc.org by Monday, December 22nd, 2025, at 11:59 pm EST for consideration.
Selected applicants will be interviewed by members of the Board’s Nominating Committee via telephone or video. Candidates for President-Elect will undergo additional interviews with the current leadership team and the entire Nominating Committee. The final selection for the Board of Directors will take place following a meeting of the full Board in the spring.
Please note that interviews are not guaranteed for everyone who submits written applications.
While we recognize that many of our applicants are deeply committed to ensuring that people have access to compassionate and caring abortion providers, we regret to inform you that we cannot offer general Board membership or the President-Elect position to everyone interested.
Application Deadline
Applications MUST be submitted by 11:59 pm EST on Monday, December 22nd, 2025. Applications received after that deadline will not be reviewed. We encourage all applicants to submit their materials earlier, in advance of the deadline. Application Deadline
