Abortion Training

At Medical Students for Choice, we believe that residents should have clinical exposure to abortion care. We have one program to support residents’ efforts to receive this exposure.

Training to Competence Externship Funding Program

MSFC’s Training to Competence Externship (TCE) funding program provides residents with financial and logistical support for receiving clinical abortion training outside of their program’s standard curriculum.

While there is not a formally established criterion for achieving competence in abortion, most of our residents have found that after performing 50 abortion procedures they feel competent enough to continue training on their own. Accepted applicants qualify for a stipend to offset the costs associated with participating in this program.

All residents who are currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited residency program are welcome to apply to the TCE program.

To learn more about the application process, please visit our “How to Apply” page. If you have questions or need further information about this opportunity, you can email us at externs@msfc.org.

The course has been endorsed by FIGO (The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics).

The training, which is a video series available for free in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese and Russian, is designed to equip these health workers with the relevant skills to provide medical abortion care.
